Approximately 4 miles south of Plainview on Wabasha County Road 4, the Carley State Park includes a one-mile self-guided trail and a five-mile trail that crisscross the north branch of the Whitewater River numerous times.
Beauty and quiet, that is the essence of Carley State Park. In the spring, delicate bluebells (Mertensia virginica), and other wildflowers carpet the valley with a profusion of color. Hike along the trail that follows the Whitewater River and take in the grand old white pines. Listen for the sweet song of orioles, song sparrows, house wrens, and indigo buntings. Enjoy the picnic area, play on the swings or practice softball. Try your hand at horseshoes or sit back and see a red-tailed hawk ride thermals in the sky. The north branch of the Whitewater River is a designated trout stream and provides habitat for brown trout. Rustic campsites are located near the picnic area.
Museums – Artifacts and memorabilia from the Plainview, Minnesota area. Geneology research services available for a fee.
140 3rd St. NW – Watkins House.

Musical theater productions held at least twice per year, generally in the summer and fall. We also sponsor the annual Christmas Cantata. The Plainview Community Theater is a cast of volunteers from the communities of Plainview, Elgin, and Millville. You never know who you might see on stage – your banker, your teacher, your next door neighbor – and you’ll say “I never knew they could sing/act like that!”
Shows in August and October, selling from June to October.
Other activities include the Old-Fashioned Christmas Cantata in December in conjunction with the Plainview Community Choir.

Located 3 miles south of Elba on State Highway 74, the Whitewater State Park includes a Beach Trail and Meadow Trail (one-mile long, handicapped accessible), Trout Run Creek Trail (two-mile long self-guided trail that provides an easy walk through a wooded valley) and 10 miles of trails that are a combination of easy, moderate and challenging trails that take you from bottom land along the river to the bluffs and valley overlooks.
Whitewater Wines is a true ‘find’, located among the farms along the Whitewater river bluff lands. The owners’ goal is to create an experience of old world charm. A typical visit includes sampling many wines from an extensive wine list, visiting with the owners, and relaxing in a gorgeous, secluded setting. The twenty-five wines on their list are made on the premises, and all but two are made from either their own grapes or local grapes/fruit. The winemaker’s priority is to make a variety of delicious wines, to meet a variety of palates.
Whitewater Wines is located 8 miles southeast of Plainview off of Wabasha County Road 25.
